DUTIES:
- Unclog urinals, lavatories, and sewer lines; repair/replace fixtures/parts/sewer lines as necessary; connect new fixtures to existing water supply lines; replace leaky and corroded pipes.
- Install new water lines/drain lines/vents and connect to existing plumbing fixtures.
- Operate plumbing equipment such as jack hammers, pipe threaders/locators and torches.
- Maintain space heaters, water heaters, and grease traps.
- Repair/replace irrigation parts for lawns; inspect/repair backflow preventors on sprinkler water lines.
- Prepare material lists for completion of plumbing jobs.
- Service and maintain water softeners.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Knowledge of plumbing terminology/systems/layouts and
how to read/design plumbing schemas/blueprints. Must have basic human
relations skills and good oral/written communication skills. Ability
to properly operate equipment such as backhoes, sewer augers, power tools,
jack hammers, trucks/jeeps, pipe threaders/locators,
arc welders, acetylene/cutting torches, and various
plumbing-related gauges; lift 75 lbs. May be subject to chemical/
mechanical hazards and to working in cold/wet/muddy places and under buildings.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Must possess a valid Plumber license and a valid Ontario Driver's License.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Explaining information related to day-to-day or recurring issues.
Completing routine forms requiring limited variations in the entry of data.
MINIMUM AND PREFERRED EDUCATION:
Minimum: A high school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: A degree (two-year program or two to three years of college) or equivalent
formal training. Specifically, the position highly desires a degree/certificate
in Plumbing Technology.
MINIMUM AND PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Minimum: Three years.
Preferred: Five to eight years.
Specifically, the position requires a minimum of three years of experience in plumbing.
